How to Install BigIdeasDB Clipper Chrome Extension
This guide walks you through installing the BigIdeasDB Clipper Chrome extension on your browser. The process takes less than two minutes and requires an active BigIdeasDB Pro membership.
Prerequisites
Before installing Clipper, make sure you have the following ready.
- Google Chrome browser (version 88 or later for Manifest V3 support)
- An active BigIdeasDB Pro membership
- You are logged into BigIdeasDB in the same Chrome browser
Download the extension
Log into your BigIdeasDB account and navigate to your dashboard. The Clipper extension download is available in the Tools section. Download the extension folder to your computer and unzip it if necessary.
Install in Chrome
Open Chrome and navigate to chrome://extensions in your address bar. Enable Developer mode by toggling the switch in the top right corner of the page. Click the Load unpacked button that appears and select the Clipper extension folder you downloaded.
Chrome will load the extension and you will see the BigIdeasDB Clipper icon appear in your browser toolbar. If the icon does not appear immediately, click the puzzle piece icon in the toolbar and pin BigIdeasDB Clipper.
Verify it works
Click the Clipper icon in your toolbar. If you are logged into BigIdeasDB with a Pro account, you will see the copy buttons. Try clicking Copy as Markdown on any webpage and paste the result into a text editor to confirm it works.
If you see a message saying you need to log in or upgrade, make sure you are signed into BigIdeasDB in the same browser and that your Pro membership is active.
Troubleshooting
If the extension does not load, make sure Developer mode is enabled on the chrome://extensions page. If the extension loads but shows Not logged in, verify you are signed into BigIdeasDB at bigideasdb.com in the same Chrome profile.
If copying does not work on a specific page, the page may have strict content security policies that block script injection. Try on a different page to confirm the extension works generally. Most websites work without issues.
FAQ
Can I install Clipper on other browsers like Firefox or Edge?
Currently BigIdeasDB Clipper is only available for Google Chrome. Edge support using the Chrome Web Store may work but is not officially supported. Firefox uses a different extension format and is not compatible.
Do I need to reinstall after updates?
If you installed from a downloaded folder, you will need to download the updated version and reload the extension on the chrome://extensions page. Click the refresh icon on the extension card to reload it after replacing the files.
The extension says I am not logged in but I am signed into BigIdeasDB
Make sure you are using the same Chrome profile where you are logged into BigIdeasDB. Incognito mode and separate Chrome profiles have separate cookie stores. Also check that your session has not expired by visiting bigideasdb.com.
