Read the documentation ↗BigIdeasDB Desktop is a local-first research app for Mac and Windows. It collects fresh evidence on your own computer from Reddit, Google Trends, app stores, search suggestions, YouTube, Hacker News, Stack Exchange, GitHub, marketplaces and businesses for sale, saves it in projects, and hands the thinking to the AI agent you already use. It is in Beta.
BigIdeasDB Desktop is built for exactly that. You make a project, ask your AI agent about the idea, and Desktop gathers the evidence into a project on your machine: complaints, trend lines, app store reviews and search demand, each with its source. Generalist AI chat tools can brainstorm, but they cannot collect saved, countable evidence for you.
BigIdeasDB Desktop. It has no AI key inside it and no usage meter. The AI work runs through the agent and plan you already pay for, such as Claude Code or Codex, so BigIdeasDB adds no AI bill. Desktop does the collecting, counting and saving on your machine.
Yes, for the AI parts. Desktop works with an AI agent installed on your computer, such as Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode or Ollama, or an AI client you connect over MCP, such as Claude, Cursor or ChatGPT desktop. Collecting and browsing evidence works without it, but analysis, chat and Deep Research need your agent.
Projects, evidence and chats are stored on your computer. Research requests go directly from your machine to public sources. When you use a connected AI agent, it may send the research context you give it to its provider, according to your AI setup. Desktop also makes a small licence refresh to BigIdeasDB and needs to connect at least every 48 hours.
Desktop runs one local MCP server with 360+ tools. Your AI client can create projects, run searches across the Labs, save evidence, group complaints, open a Deep Research run and lay out the ideation canvas. One-click setup covers Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Codex and OpenCode.
Deep Research (Beta) answers one question about one product: what do people say about it? You name a product, approve a plan, and Desktop collects reviews and forum posts on your computer. Your AI groups them, and the app counts the findings and checks every quote word for word against a stored row. Counts describe the rows collected, not all users.
Mac (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows (64-bit). One account can activate Desktop on up to 3 computers.
Desktop is included with Basic and Pro, or you can buy it on its own as a one-time add-on with no membership. The add-on price changes over time, so the live price is always on the Desktop tab of the pricing page.
Get Desktop, download the installer from your Desktop account, sign in to activate it, connect your AI agent, then ask it to start a project on an idea you are curious about. The getting started guide in the docs walks through the first run.
