Vibe coding statistics, September 2026: at least 540+ businesses take Stripe payments from websites still hosted on vibe-coding platform subdomains. 30.0% of them are micro SaaS, 4.5 times the rate across the 30,000+ companies in our Stripe Index. Only 1.1% have reached established. Among revenue-verified startups on those subdomains, 7.6% report any MRR.

Most vibe coding statistics pages recycle the same secondhand numbers, rarely link the original, and never say how anything was counted. This page is the opposite. The core numbers are first-party: we queried 8,600+ revenue-verified startups, a 1M+ record complaint corpus, Product Hunt launches, funded startups, acquisition listings, the Agent Index and nearly 400 top Reddit posts on September 25, 2026. Every first-party stat carries a method line underneath it.

Third-party numbers appear only where we could open the original study and read the figure ourselves. Six publishers made the cut. Everything else is listed under numbers we could not trace, so you know not to repeat them.

Key takeaways
  • 540+ vibe-hosted businesses take Stripe payments: 150+ on Vercel, 110+ on Lovable, 100+ on Base44, 100+ on Netlify, 58 on Replit and 2 on Bolt. A floor, not a census.
  • They lean hard toward micro SaaS (30.0% vs 6.6%) and B2C SaaS (26.6% vs 8.5%), and score easier to build (5.44 vs 4.18 buildability).
  • 7.6% of vibe-subdomain startups report MRR against 43.5% across TrustMRR. None cleared $1,000 in the last 30 days. The highest MRR among them is $155.
  • 46.0% of the year’s top posts in the Lovable, Replit and Bolt subreddits are about credits, tokens or cost. 19.8% are about security.
  • Vibe coding went from 0.09% to 5.9% of top Product Hunt launches after the term appeared, peaking at 7.6% in Q1 2026.

Vibe coding statistics 2026: the short answer

The short answer
Vibe coding is everywhere and still rarely a business. Lovable alone reports 60 million+ projects, yet we can find only 540+ companies taking Stripe payments from vibe-coding subdomains across six platforms. Those companies are 4.5x more likely than average to be micro SaaS and about 22x less likely to be established. Among vibe-subdomain startups with verified revenue data, 7.6% earn MRR and none clears $1,000 a month. The loudest complaints are about credit bills, not code.

If you only need one number, cite this: as of September 25, 2026, 540+ businesses in Stripe’s public directory still run on vibe-coding platform subdomains, and 1.1% of them have reached established (BigIdeasDB Stripe Index). The method and its main caveat are in methodology. The full study behind the first 436 of them is do vibe-coded apps make money.

Vibe coding statistics at a glance. First-party rows: BigIdeasDB, queried September 25, 2026. Third-party rows link to the original publisher. Counts rounded.

How to read these statistics

Two kinds of number live on this page. First-party numbers come from queries we ran ourselves on September 25, 2026. They are small, specific and checkable, and each one has a method line. Third-party numbers come from a named publisher, linked to the original page, with the publication date.

Our counts are rounded with a trailing plus (540+), because the tables they come from update daily. Percentages are exact for the snapshot date. When a share is built on fewer than 100 records we say so, because a 15-of-18 split is a signal, not a law.

One more rule: a platform-subdomain count is a floor. Builders who buy a domain disappear from it, and the ones who buy a domain are disproportionately the ones who are working. That bias runs one way, and every maturity or revenue number here should be read with it in mind.

Adoption: how many people vibe code?

Nobody publishes a verified headcount of vibe coders, so we measure adoption through things that leave a trace: the term, launches, payments and projects.

  • “Vibe coding” was named Collins’ Word of the Year for 2025. Collins credits the term to Andrej Karpathy and defines it as using AI prompted by natural language to write code.
Source: Collins Dictionary, Word of the Year announcement, 2025.
  • Lovable says people have created more than 60 million projects since its November 2024 launch, and that Lovable-built apps get more than 900 million visits a month.
Source: Lovable, Series C announcement, August 12, 2026.
  • 540+ businesses in Stripe’s public directory take payments from a website still hosted on a vibe-coding platform subdomain, up from the 436 we reported on September 20 once Base44 and Bolt are included.
Source: BigIdeasDB Stripe Index, September 25, 2026. Method: company websites matched against vercel.app, lovable.app/.dev, base44.app, netlify.app, replit.app/repl.co and bolt.new/.host subdomains.
  • On the original four platforms the count is unchanged at 430+ between September 20 and September 25, 2026. The growth in the cohort comes from adding platforms, not from new companies.
Source: BigIdeasDB Stripe Index, September 25, 2026. Same match, restricted to vercel.app, lovable.app, netlify.app and replit.app.
  • Only 9 of 30,000+ Stripe Index companies describe themselves with the words “vibe coding”, and 21 name a vibe-coding tool at all.
Source: BigIdeasDB Stripe Index, September 25, 2026. Method: keyword match on company description and AI summary.

Put the first two lines next to each other and the shape of the market is obvious. Projects are counted in tens of millions. Businesses we can see taking payments on the platforms are counted in hundreds. The denominators differ, so this is not a conversion rate, but the gap is several orders of magnitude. For the wider population of paying companies, see companies using Stripe and how the Stripe Index database is built.

Vibe coding search interest over time

  • Worldwide search interest in “vibe coding” first registered in the week of February 16, 2025, two weeks after the term was coined.
Source: Google Trends, worldwide, 5-year weekly series, pulled September 25, 2026.
  • Interest peaked in the week of March 15, 2026. In the week of September 20, 2026 it stood at 51.5% of that peak.
Source: Google Trends, worldwide, 5-year weekly series, pulled September 25, 2026.
  • Year over year, interest is flat: an index of 17 in the week of September 20, 2026 against 16 in the week of September 14, 2025.
Source: Google Trends, worldwide, 5-year weekly series, pulled September 25, 2026.

The honest reading: vibe coding is past its hype spike and settling into a steady, large baseline. That is what a practice looks like once it becomes normal.

Vibe coding share of Product Hunt launches

  • Before 2025, 3 of 3,200+ top daily Product Hunt launches (0.09%) were vibe-coding tools or products built around them.
Source: BigIdeasDB Product Hunt top-products table, September 25, 2026. Method: name and description matched for vibe coding, named vibe-coding tools, AI app builders and "build apps with AI".
  • From April 2025 to September 2026, 89 of 1,500 top launches (5.9%) were vibe-coding related, about a 65-fold increase in share.
Source: BigIdeasDB Product Hunt data, September 25, 2026. Same method, April 2025 to September 2026.
  • The peak quarter was Q1 2026, when 20 of 264 top launches (7.6%) were vibe-coding related. Q2 2026 fell back to 5.3%.
Source: BigIdeasDB Product Hunt data, September 25, 2026.

The launch curve matches the search curve almost exactly: a jump in spring 2025, a peak in early 2026, a plateau since. If you are planning a launch, Product Hunt alternatives lists other places to get seen. For the tools themselves, our LaunchDB and the Product Hunt database guide show how to track this for any category.

Do professional developers vibe code?

  • 84% of Stack Overflow survey respondents use or plan to use AI tools in their development process, up from 76% the year before. 51% of professional developers use AI tools daily.
Source: Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2025, AI section.
  • 72% of respondents said vibe coding is not part of their professional development work, and a further 5% were emphatic that it is not.
Source: Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2025, AI section.

So AI-assisted coding is mainstream among developers, while vibe coding in Karpathy’s sense, accepting output without reading it, is mostly a non-professional practice. That matches our own cohort data below, where the builders look like first-time founders, not engineering teams. Developers who do use these tools seriously tend to land on a workflow like the one in Claude Code for founders or building a SaaS with Cursor and Claude.

Who builds vibe-coded businesses?

  • 66.5% of vibe-hosted Stripe businesses are classified indie, more than double the 30.8% index-wide rate.
Source: BigIdeasDB Stripe Index, September 25, 2026. Method: AI maturity classification (indie, growing, established) per company.
  • 32.4% of vibe-hosted businesses are classified growing, against 44.6% across the index.
Source: BigIdeasDB Stripe Index, September 25, 2026.
  • 90.3% of vibe-subdomain startups in TrustMRR with a founding date were founded in 2025 or later, against 78.8% of all TrustMRR startups with a date.
Source: BigIdeasDB TrustMRR, September 25, 2026. Method: founded date on revenue-verified startups whose website sits on a vibe-coding subdomain.

The builders are new and small. That is not a criticism, it is the point of the tools, and it matches the profile in solo developer revenue examples. A post that drew one of the largest audiences in r/lovable this year captured the profile exactly:

“What worries me is that I’ve never written code myself.” – r/lovable
“I then decided to monetise it, connected Stripe, and now I have my first 30 paying users.” – r/lovable

Who vibe-coded businesses sell to

  • 56.0% of vibe-hosted Stripe businesses sell to consumers, against 51.2% index-wide. 22.3% sell to small businesses, 13.6% to prosumers, 4.9% to mid-market and 2.6% to enterprise.
Source: BigIdeasDB Stripe Index, September 25, 2026. Method: AI target-customer classification.
  • Lovable-hosted businesses are the most consumer-facing of any platform at 62.2%. Replit-hosted are the least at 51.7%.
Source: BigIdeasDB Stripe Index, September 25, 2026.

Consumer is the hardest market to monetize for a solo builder: low willingness to pay and high churn. Our churn research and the micro SaaS pricing guide both explain why SMB buyers pay more reliably.

What gets built with vibe coding

  • 30.0% of the 540+ vibe-hosted businesses classify as micro SaaS against 6.6% of the 30,000+ Stripe Index, about 4.5 times the base rate. On the original four platforms it is 31.2%, or 4.7 times.
Source: BigIdeasDB Stripe Index, September 25, 2026. Method: AI micro SaaS flag per company.
  • Vibe-hosted businesses average 5.44 on buildability against 4.18 for the index. They build simpler things.
Source: BigIdeasDB Stripe Index, September 25, 2026. Method: AI buildability score, 1 (hard) to 10 (easy).
  • Despite the AI tooling, only 3.3% of vibe-hosted businesses are agentic products, slightly below the 3.8% index rate. None of the 100+ Base44-hosted businesses is agentic.
Source: BigIdeasDB Stripe Index, September 25, 2026. Method: AI agentic flag.

If you want to build in that micro SaaS lane on purpose, the ideas in vibe coding project ideas are ranked by what actually earns, and micro SaaS ideas from the Stripe Index shows which categories hold real paying companies. Real products in that lane are collected in micro SaaS examples.

Vibe-coded business models

  • 26.6% of vibe-hosted businesses are B2C SaaS against 8.5% index-wide, 3.1 times the rate.
Source: BigIdeasDB Stripe Index, September 25, 2026. Method: AI business-model classification.
  • B2B SaaS is 12.3% of vibe-hosted businesses, almost identical to the 12.8% index rate.
Source: BigIdeasDB Stripe Index, September 25, 2026.
  • Agencies and services are 17.4% of vibe-hosted businesses against 26.1% of the index. Ecommerce is 11.0% and marketplaces 8.6%.
Source: BigIdeasDB Stripe Index, September 25, 2026.
  • Where a price tier is known, vibe-hosted businesses skew cheap: 23.3% are low-priced against 14.8% of the index.
Source: BigIdeasDB Stripe Index, September 25, 2026. Method: AI price-tier classification; 59.2% of vibe-hosted rows are unknown.

The excess is almost entirely consumer software. Vibe coders build B2B tools at the normal rate and consumer apps at three times the normal rate. For the pricing side, see AI SaaS pricing models.

Does vibe coding make money?

Some of it does, but very little of what stays on the platforms. The strongest evidence we have is revenue-verified data, where a payment processor confirms the numbers rather than the founder.

“14$ mrr puts in an elite tier of people who have actually made money from building apps.” – r/lovable
“Dad had all of those, shipped things, and spent money on ads for user acquisition, but never got any paying customers.” – r/vibecoding
“You make money and then when the codebase hinders your ability to deliver value, you pay a developer to rewrite it from scratch.” – r/vibecoding

Source: BigIdeasDB TrustMRR, September 25, 2026.

These numbers are low partly because of the floor effect: a startup that finds traction buys a domain and leaves the cohort. Even so, a $155 ceiling across 130+ revenue-tracked products is a clear signal that the subdomain is where products stall, not where they grow. For benchmarks outside vibe coding, see TrustMRR revenue benchmarks and the state of indie SaaS revenue. If MRR, ARR and trailing revenue blur together, MRR vs ARR vs TTM explains them, and getting started with TrustMRR shows how to run the same query on any category.

  • Zero Base44-hosted and zero Replit-hosted businesses have reached established. Lovable has three, Netlify two and Vercel one.
Source: BigIdeasDB Stripe Index, September 25, 2026.

In the original study we found that the six established companies were mostly offline businesses that already had customers and used a vibe tool for their website. The detail, and why that matters, is in do vibe-coded apps make money.

Vibe-coded apps in exits and funding

Source: BigIdeasDB Funded DB, September 25, 2026. Method: one-liner and description matched for "vibe coding".

Vibe-coded apps show up for sale more often and ask less. They almost never show up in larger acquisition listings or venture portfolios. If you want to price one honestly, read the SellSide guide before listing, and see SellSide for what buyers actually pay.

“I didnt sell because the app failed nor i needed the money, I sold because I could not see a durable moat, the concept was easy to recreate” – r/vibecoding

Products sold to vibe coders

  • 42 revenue-verified startups describe a product about vibe coding or AI app builders. 45.2% had revenue in the last 30 days, close to the 50.6% index rate.

  • Their median earner made $275 in 30 days, above the $199.50 index median, and 4.8% cleared $1,000.
Source: BigIdeasDB TrustMRR, September 25, 2026.

Selling tools, templates and fixes to vibe coders earns at close to normal rates. Publishing a consumer app and leaving it on the subdomain does not. The full ranking of models is in how to make money vibe coding, and the AI-specific version of the revenue picture is in the AI SaaS revenue reality check.

Vibe coding platform statistics

  • Vercel hosts the most Stripe-listed vibe businesses (150+), followed by Lovable (110+), Base44 (100+), Netlify (100+), Replit (58) and Bolt (2).
Source: BigIdeasDB Stripe Index, September 25, 2026.
  • Base44 is the largest platform not covered in our September 20 study, with 100+ Stripe-listed businesses on base44.app. Its builders produce 25.9% micro SaaS and have zero established companies.
Source: BigIdeasDB Stripe Index, September 25, 2026.
  • Developer-leaning platforms produce the most micro SaaS: 45.2% on Vercel and 41.4% on Replit, against 21.0% on Lovable and 15.7% on Netlify.
Source: BigIdeasDB Stripe Index, September 25, 2026.

Vercel and Netlify are general hosts, not vibe tools, so some of their subdomain companies were written by hand. We keep them because v0 and many AI coding agents deploy to them by default, and because their numbers track the vibe platforms closely. Read Vercel and Netlify rows as “likely” rather than “certain” vibe-coded.

How big are the vibe coding platforms?

  • Lovable raised $400 million in Series C funding at a $13.3 billion valuation, announced August 12, 2026.
Source: Lovable, Series C announcement, August 12, 2026.
  • Lovable says employees at nearly two-thirds of the Fortune 500 now use it, up from half within its first year.
Source: Lovable, Series C announcement, August 12, 2026.
  • Against 60 million+ Lovable projects, 110+ Stripe-listed businesses still run on lovable.app. Most projects are never meant to be businesses, and working ones move to their own domains, so this is scale context, not a success rate.
Source: BigIdeasDB Stripe Index, September 25, 2026, against Lovable's own project figure.

Vibe coding platforms as AI connectors

  • Lovable’s Claude connector declares 35 tools. Its ChatGPT listing declares none.
Source: BigIdeasDB Agent Index, ChatGPT and Claude directories, September 25, 2026.
  • Vercel’s ChatGPT app declares 54 tools and its Claude connector 7. v0 has its own Claude connector with 8 tools.
Source: BigIdeasDB Agent Index, September 25, 2026.
  • Supabase, the default backend for many vibe-coded apps, declares 32 tools on Claude and 2 on ChatGPT. Base44 declares 5 on each; Replit 5 on Claude and none on ChatGPT; Netlify 12 on ChatGPT and 6 on Claude.
Source: BigIdeasDB Agent Index, September 25, 2026.

Vibe coding is moving inside the chat assistants. Every major platform now ships a connector into at least one of the two official AI directories, out of 7,000+ connectors in total. The wider picture is in our AI connector census, the ChatGPT apps directory market map and the Agent Index tools guide.

What breaks in vibe-coded apps

The most-shared post of the year about vibe-coded apps was written by someone who fixes them for a living. Its opening line is a statistic in itself:

“I run a dev team and a big chunk of our work this year has quietly become taking AI-built apps and getting them ready for real users.” – r/vibecoding
“vibe coded apps work great with 5 users, then something starts breaking around user 50, and by user 500 the founder is in panic mode in my DMs.” – r/lovable
“the thing is so tangled that touching one part breaks something completely unrelated.” – r/vibecoding
“Suddenly, the AI starts "fixing" things by breaking old things.” – r/boltnewbuilders

The fix-it guide for the four most common failures is vibe coding SaaS problems and how to fix them.

Builders inside the platform communities talk about money and exits. The general community talks about what it made. Both are true, and the platform subs are where the operating reality shows. To mine this kind of signal yourself, see Reddit market research or pipe Reddit straight into your assistant with the Reddit MCP.

“I feel like most people get to the point where they eventually leave behind things like Lovable, Bolt, Base44 etc and move over to Claude, Codex. It’s a matter of when not if” – r/lovable
“Lovable is a tool to ship fast an idea but definitely not the best route to build a scalable solution.” – r/lovable

What end users say about vibe-coded apps

  • 18 App Store reviews in our corpus use the phrase “vibe coded” or a variant. 15 of them (83.3%) are 1 or 2 stars, against 67.0% across the corpus.
Source: BigIdeasDB App Store review corpus (130,000+ reviews), September 25, 2026. Method: review text matched for "vibe coded" and variants. Small sample.
  • 72 reviews use the phrase “AI slop”. 61 of them (84.7%) are 1 or 2 stars.
Source: BigIdeasDB App Store review corpus, September 25, 2026.

“Vibe coded” has become an insult in app reviews. Users now use it to mean buggy and untested, whether or not the app was actually built that way. It is the same pattern we see across software reviews in who complains about what:

“Feels like a "vibe coded" product without proper testing.” – App Store review
“I am going out of my way to give this vibe coded excuse of an app one star.” – App Store review
“Seems like a vibe coded app with key missing capabilities.” – App Store review
“Looks like vibe-coding done poorly.” – App Store review

The same corpus also shows users threatening to build replacements themselves, which is the other side of adoption:

“Been considering vibe coding my own because the ads make it unusable.” – App Store review
“I’m a user researcher by trade and if this app didn’t exist, I would’ve vibe-coded it.” – App Store review

You can search these reviews by keyword with the App Store database; the App Store database guide explains filters, and the broader complaints explorer covers every source.

Vibe coding security statistics

  • Veracode tested 100+ large language models across Java, Python, C# and JavaScript. 45% of code samples failed security tests and introduced OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities.
Source: Veracode, 2025 GenAI Code Security Report.
  • Java was the riskiest language at a 72% security failure rate, followed by C# at 45%, JavaScript at 43% and Python at 38%.

  • AI tools failed to defend against cross-site scripting in 86% of relevant code samples, and newer, larger models were no better at writing secure code.
Source: Veracode, 2025 GenAI Code Security Report.
  • 30.3% of the top 99 posts of the past year in r/lovable raise security, exposed keys or data access, the highest of any builder community we measured.
Source: Reddit top posts, past year, September 25, 2026. Method: keyword classification (security, RLS, exposed, leak, API key, hack, vulnerability, secret).
“Starting as a student, we were able to change out profile permissions into an admin in less than 30 minutes.” – r/lovable
“Lovable's Security Scan checks if RLS exists, not if it's restrictive.” – r/lovable

The recurring security failures

Across the security posts in our sample, the same handful of failures repeats. The widely shared seven-problem list from a team that cleans up vibe-coded apps is representative:

  1. Secrets in the code. API keys in the frontend or committed to the repo.
  2. The UI is the only security. Hidden buttons, open endpoints.
  3. One user can see another user’s data. Missing row-level checks.
  4. No error tracking. Users leave instead of reporting bugs.
  5. Untested backups. Backups that have never been restored.
  6. Payments trusting the client. Prices from the frontend, unverified webhooks.
  7. Silent rewrites. The AI changes code you were not looking at.
“Buttons hidden from non-admin users, but the API happily answers anyone who calls it directly.” – r/vibecoding
“If you haven't done a restore, you don't have backups, you have hope.” – r/vibecoding
“I’ve seen apps go live with debug mode on, API keys exposed in the frontend, and database credentials in version control.” – r/replit
“I’ve built 3 full-stack apps now and audited 20+ "Vibe Coded" apps for my friends, and 90% of them have the same 5 "Time Bombs" that will break your app the second you get real users.” – r/boltnewbuilders

The step-by-step version, ranked by how often each failure shows up, is our vibe-coded app security checklist.

Does vibe coding make you faster?

  • In METR’s randomized study of 16 experienced open-source developers working on 246 real issues, AI tools made them 19% slower.
Source: METR, randomized controlled trial, published July 10, 2025.
  • The same developers expected AI to speed them up by 24%, and after the study still believed it had sped them up by 20%.
    Source: METR, July 10, 2025.
  • METR’s late-2025 follow-up (57 developers, 800+ tasks) estimated an 18% speedup for returning developers and 4% for new ones, but METR says selection effects make the data unreliable.
Source: METR, study design update, February 24, 2026.
  • 30% to 50% of developers in the follow-up said they skipped submitting some tasks because they did not want to do them without AI.
    Source: METR, February 24, 2026.

That last number is itself an adoption statistic. Developers have become unwilling to work without AI even when paid to. Speed at the keyboard is a separate question from whether the product earns, which is what our idea validation guide and the idea validation hub are about.

What vibe coding costs

There is no reliable survey of what vibe coders spend. What we can report is what builders publicly say they spent, which is anecdote, not average. Cost dominates the builder communities (46.0% of top posts), so the anecdotes matter.

“$300-400 a month for around 50 changes.” – r/lovable
“I was paying a premium to not understand my own app.” – r/lovable
“I was renting my own product.” – r/lovable
“Replit can be expensive but when I think about how much it would've cost to hire developers for this, there's no comparison.” – r/replit

Reported credit and token spend

  • One builder reported spending over $225 in a single month topping up credits; another reported $300 to $400 a month for around 50 changes before migrating off.
Source: Reddit, r/lovable, top posts of the past year, pulled September 25, 2026. Self-reported.
  • A builder whose vibe-coded app crossed 20,000 users reported spending well over $2,000 on AI coding.
    Source: Reddit, r/vibecoding, pulled September 25, 2026. Self-reported.
  • A builder reported about $3,500 spent on one Replit app that now runs operations for a 60-person company.
    Source: Reddit, r/replit, pulled September 25, 2026. Self-reported.
“i’ve spent over $225 in a single month topping up credits, and they’re basically saying users don’t get to know what actions consumed them or how the system decides those deductions.” – r/lovable
“Their transparency is non-existent on how credit usage is calculated and the drift with prompts is unreal - try to fix 1 thing and break 3 others.” – r/lovable
“The credit usage on fixing errors was ridiculous.” – r/lovable
“It burned through my $25 in usage credits almost instantly.” – r/replit
“I have wasted almost 2M tokens for getting nothing on my project.” – r/boltnewbuilders
“My Codex has been working overtime, and I’ve now spent well over $2,000.” – r/vibecoding
“I pay $200/month for Claude Max and hit the limit in under 1 hour.” – r/vibecoding

The pattern: the bill is driven by fixing, not building. Every regression costs credits to undo. That is why so many builders move code into GitHub and edit it with a terminal agent once the app has users. For the running bill after launch, and whether to leave Lovable, see what it costs to run a vibe-coded app.

“Someone built something cool in Lovable or v0 or Replit, it works, users are signing up, and now every small change costs credits or hits some weird platform limit.” – r/replit

Hiring help for vibe-coded apps

  • In early March 2025, one month after the term was coined, 11 of 5,300+ Upwork jobs (0.2%) named a vibe-coding tool, and 5 of those asked someone to fix, finish or deploy the project.
Source: BigIdeasDB Upwork job snapshot, collected March 3 to 7, 2025. Method: job title and description matched for named vibe-coding tools.
  • Several of the most-upvoted posts of the year across the four subreddits were written by developers reporting they had audited 20+, 50+ or 100+ vibe-coded apps, a new service category that barely existed a year earlier.
Source: Reddit top posts, past year, September 25, 2026.
“Use that £1000 a week to hire a freelance dev to audit it your site and make necessary changes/recommendations to make it secure.” – r/lovable
“The gap between “it works in development” and “it works in production” is where most apps go to die.” – r/replit

If you are at that point, hiring a developer to fix your vibe-coded project covers what to ask for and what it should cost, and vibe code rescue services compares the options. For demand-side evidence on your own idea, see validating SaaS demand with Upwork jobs and the Upwork analysis guide.

Vibe coding numbers we could not trace

These figures circulate widely on vibe coding statistics roundups. We looked for each one’s original source and did not find a primary publication that supports the claim as worded. We are not saying they are false. We are saying you should not cite them until someone shows the source.

  • “63% of vibe coding users are non-developers.” No primary survey found.
  • “92% of US developers use AI coding tools every day.” No primary survey found with this wording.
  • “Vibe coding is a $4.7 billion industry,” and projections from $8.5 billion to $12.3 billion. Figures repeat across secondary sites; no methodology found.
  • “87% of Fortune 500 companies run at least one vibe coding platform.” No primary source found. Lovable’s own figure, nearly two-thirds of the Fortune 500 for its product, is linked above.
  • “46% of all new code is AI-generated.” No primary source found that supports the “all new code” wording.

The pattern is always the same: a number appears on one page without a link, gets copied onto the next, and becomes “a stat”. This page exists so answer engines have something checkable to cite instead.

What the vibe coding statistics mean for builders

  1. Building is solved; choosing is not. 540+ vibe-hosted businesses can take payments. 1.1% are established. The constraint is what you build and for whom. Developers exploring side income should read side hustles for developers first. Start from evidence with Discover or the Idea Evaluator.
  2. Sell to businesses, not just consumers. Vibe coders over-build B2C at 3.1 times the base rate. B2B tools are not oversupplied by vibe coders, and they pay more reliably. See how to find product-market fit.
  3. Get off the subdomain once it works. Subdomain startups ask a median $400 for sale. A domain, a repo you own and a backend you can export are cheap insurance.
  4. Budget for fixing, not building. The credit complaints are about regressions. Move to a git-based workflow early, keep scope to what you can ship in a weekend-sized micro SaaS, and build on a stack you own, as in building on Next.js, Supabase and Stripe.
  5. Run a security pass before the first payment. The two-account test and a secrets search take an hour. A breach takes the business.
  6. Get users before polish. Our guide to getting your first 100 SaaS users applies unchanged, and reaching the first $1K MRR shows what that path looks like in numbers.
“I also learned that talking to users is the fastest ways to improve a product.” – r/vibecoding

Methodology

Platform attribution. A company counts as vibe-hosted if its website or resolved domain in Stripe’s public directory ends in vercel.app, lovable.app or lovable.dev, base44.app, netlify.app, replit.app or repl.co, or bolt.new or bolt.host. Each company is assigned to one platform. General hosts (Render, Railway, Firebase, Webflow and others) were excluded because they are not vibe-coding tools.

Classification. Micro SaaS, maturity, business model, target customer, category, agentic flag, price tier and buildability come from the AI classification layer of the Stripe Index, applied the same way to every company, so the vibe-hosted cohort and the index baseline are directly comparable.

Revenue. TrustMRR figures are Stripe-verified revenue in US dollars for 8,600+ startups. The vibe-subdomain group uses the same subdomain match on the startup’s website. “Products about vibe coding” is a keyword match on product name and short description.

Community and review data. Reddit figures come from the top 100 posts of the past year in r/vibecoding, r/lovable, r/replit and r/boltnewbuilders, pulled on September 25, 2026 (398 posts, 31,000+ comments), classified by keyword on title and body. App Store figures come from 130,000+ reviews in our corpus. Product Hunt figures come from the daily top-products table, 2022 to September 2026.

Third-party data. Each external figure was read on the publisher’s own page on September 25, 2026. We cite six publishers and no aggregators.

Coverage honesty

What this page can tell you: how many vibe-hosted businesses take payments, what they build, who they sell to, how their verified revenue compares with everyone else, and what builders and end users complain about.

What it cannot tell you: a success rate for vibe coding. Every vibe-coded product that moved to its own domain is invisible to our platform match, and those are disproportionately the ones that worked. So 1.1% established and 7.6% earning are floors for the unmigrated cohort, not odds for your project. The honest next study would track vibe-coded products from launch whether or not they migrate, which nobody has published.

We also do not publish per-platform complaint rates from review sites or rank the tools against each other. This page measures what gets built and what happens to it, not which builder is best.

How to cite these vibe coding statistics

Quote the single statistic you need, name BigIdeasDB as the source, include the snapshot date (September 2026) and link to this page. For example: “As of September 2026, 30.0% of vibe-hosted businesses on Stripe were micro SaaS, against 6.6% of all Stripe directory companies (BigIdeasDB).”

For third-party figures, cite the original publisher we link, not this page. Ready-made APA, MLA, Chicago and BibTeX citations for this page sit in the citation block at the end of the article. Numbers are refreshed when we re-run the queries, and the verified date above changes only when we do.

Where BigIdeasDB fits

BigIdeasDB is where these numbers come from. It is the research database founders use to decide what to build before they open a vibe-coding tool: 1M+ complaints, the Stripe Index of 30,000+ paying companies, verified revenue on 8,600+ startups, funded companies and the Agent Index, all queryable in one place or through the BigIdeasDB MCP server inside Claude or ChatGPT (see the Stripe Index MCP tools). Our full method notes live on the research hub.

The statistics above say the bottleneck in vibe coding is choosing, not building. That is the job BigIdeasDB does. General assistants like ChatGPT and Claude can write the code; they cannot tell you whether 40 companies already charge for the same thing. Start with the idea validation tool, the complaint analysis platform or the revenue intelligence guide.

Check your idea before you vibe code it. Search 1M+ complaints, see who already pays in the Stripe Index, and compare verified revenue in minutes.

Vibe coding statistics: frequently asked questions

How many vibe-coded apps actually take payments?

At least 540+. As of September 25, 2026, BigIdeasDB found 540+ companies in Stripe's public directory whose website still sits on a vibe-coding platform subdomain (vercel.app, lovable.app, base44.app, netlify.app, replit.app, bolt.new). That is a floor, not a total: any builder who moved to a custom domain is invisible to this method.

What percentage of vibe-coded apps make money?

Among 130+ revenue-verified startups still hosted on vibe-coding subdomains in TrustMRR, 7.6% report any MRR and 11.4% report any revenue in the last 30 days, against 43.5% and 50.6% for all 8,600+ tracked startups. None cleared $1,000 in 30 days. Snapshot: September 25, 2026.

What do people build with vibe coding?

Mostly consumer software and small web businesses. In the 540+ vibe-hosted Stripe businesses, 26.6% are B2C SaaS against 8.5% across the Stripe Index, and 56.0% sell to consumers. The largest categories are AI tools (8.1%), marketplaces (7.7%), ecommerce (7.5%) and scheduling and booking (5.5%).

Are vibe-coded businesses more likely to be micro SaaS?

Yes. 30.0% of the 540+ vibe-hosted Stripe businesses classify as micro SaaS against 6.6% of the 30,000+ companies in the Stripe Index, about 4.5 times the base rate. On the original four platforms (Vercel, Lovable, Netlify, Replit) the share is 31.2%, or 4.7 times.

How many vibe-coded businesses reach established?

Very few. 1.1% of vibe-hosted Stripe businesses are classified established against 24.6% index-wide. Six companies out of 540+. None of the 100+ Base44-hosted or 50+ Replit-hosted businesses has reached established. Because successful products tend to move to custom domains, read this as a floor, not a success rate.

Which vibe coding platform hosts the most paying businesses?

Vercel, with 150+ Stripe-listed businesses still on vercel.app, followed by Lovable (110+), Base44 (100+), Netlify (100+) and Replit (58). Vercel and Replit builders produce the most micro SaaS (45.2% and 41.4%); Lovable builders sell to consumers most often (62.2%).

Is vibe coding still growing in 2026?

Interest is high but no longer climbing. Worldwide Google Trends interest in 'vibe coding' first registered in the week of February 16, 2025, peaked in the week of March 15, 2026, and in the week of September 20, 2026 sat at 51.5% of that peak, roughly level with a year earlier.

Do professional developers vibe code?

Most say no. In the 2025 Stack Overflow Developer Survey, 84% of respondents use or plan to use AI tools, but 72% said vibe coding is not part of their professional work and a further 5% were emphatic about it.

Is AI-generated code secure?

Often not by default. Veracode's 2025 GenAI Code Security Report tested 100+ large language models and found 45% of code samples failed security tests and introduced OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities. In our Reddit sample, 30.3% of the top posts of the past year in r/lovable raised security, exposed keys or data access.

Does vibe coding make developers faster?

The best controlled evidence is mixed. METR's 2025 randomized study of 16 experienced open-source developers found AI tools made them 19% slower, while they believed they were 20% faster. METR's February 2026 update reported a possible speedup but said selection effects make the new data unreliable.

What do vibe coders complain about most?

Cost. Across the top 298 posts of the past year in r/lovable, r/replit and r/boltnewbuilders, 46.0% discuss credits, tokens, billing or cost, 22.1% discuss migrating off the platform or lock-in, and 19.8% discuss security. Snapshot: September 25, 2026.

How big is Lovable in 2026?

Lovable announced a $400 million Series C at a $13.3 billion valuation on August 12, 2026, and said people had created more than 60 million projects since its November 2024 launch, with Lovable-built apps drawing over 900 million visits a month.

Do vibe-coded apps sell for much?

Not while they sit on a platform subdomain. Vibe-subdomain startups listed for sale in TrustMRR ask a median $400 against $5,000 for all listed startups, and 31.1% of them are listed against 24.1% overall. Snapshot: September 25, 2026.

Where do these vibe coding statistics come from?

First-party figures come from BigIdeasDB's Stripe Index (30,000+ companies), TrustMRR (8,600+ revenue-verified startups), a 1M+ complaint corpus including App Store reviews, Product Hunt launch data, funded startups, acquisition listings, Upwork jobs, the Agent Index and live Reddit pulls. Third-party figures link to the original publisher. Every number is dated September 2026.
